Additional STEP Snowmelt
System Components

STEP Snowmelt operates on 24-48 volts AC/DC and is usually connected to a power supply, although it can also be run on solar or wind power. The radiant heating elements feature self-regulating technology, which acts like a sensor, maintaining an even heat distribution, while saving energy.

Snowmelt Control

The STEP Touch thermostat’s snowmelt control mode provides economical control of your heated driveway, walkway or roof deicing solution.

The STEP Touch Snowmelt mode is used when the thermostat is being used to control the STEP Snowmelt and STEP Deicing elements. The external temperature sensor is installed in the concrete or on the roof, and the set temperature is adjustable between 32°-41°F/0°-5°C. This value is maintained in flash memory, and will not be lost in the event of a power outage.

The display will show the external sensor measurement, and when both the UP/DOWN switches are pressed and released within 1 second, the display will show the ambient temperature for a short period. When the STEP Touch thermostat is in Snowmelt mode, the snowflake logo on the front panel will glow blue.

Power Supplies

STEP Heat manufactures premium Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) power supplies that are energy efficient, silent, and easy to install. Our EPI-LX-R power supply series is designed to the highest safety standard with built-in circuit breakers. The load is divided on the interface board between separate circuits to provide SELV (Safety Extra-Low Voltage). Additionally, the EPI-LX-R has a built-in regulator board that serves as an intelligence switch to enable/disable the line voltage so that switching/pulsing does not harm the power supply’s toroidal coils.

FEATURES

  • Designed to be easy to install and fit within the wall cavity
  • “Soft” switching of toroidal transformers
  • 20 EPI-LX-R power supplies can be activated from one controller
  • Trusted and precise regulation technology
  • Maximizes energy efficiency of the STEP Warmfloor system
  • Field accessible for primary voltage changes
  • The interface and regulator boards are RoHS compliant
  • Primary voltage 120V, 208V or 240V AC or DC, 50/60 Hz
  • Secondary voltage is standard at 24V, but can be special ordered for 12V up to 30V
  • Circuit breakers on the primary and secondary side
  • Each secondary circuit is rated not to exceed 25 amps, with a maximum output of 500 VA

Accessories

STEP Snowmelt electric radiant heating system installation requires specific wires and connectors for ANSI/UL compliance. Click here to download our PDF for required and optional accessories.

XTENSION WIRE

#12 or #10 AWG stranded tinned copper (TCu) PVC insulated wire, 300 Vac, 105°C. Extension wire is for field wiring from power supply to elements.

SIGNAL WIRE

3-conductor signal wire (red, green and black) to connect the thermostat to the AC Power Supply or DC Controller.

CONNECTOR & TAPE KIT (C&T-10)

Includes (10) CON-DB Crimp Connectors, (1) 15″ long piece of TAPE-1 Sealant Tape, (1) Label-1, (1) Label-2, and an installation brochure. Includes material to connect and seal five heating element strips to extension wires.

CRIMP TOOL (TOOL-PRO)

Used to crimp the CON-DB crimp connector. The TOOL-PRO ratchet crimp tool is required as it is specially designed to properly crimp CON-DB crimp connector.

OPTIONAL COMPONENTS

TERMINAL BLOCK (T-BLOCK) WITH ENCLOSURE

Two-pole, power terminal block enclosed in extruded aluminum profile w/ heat sink. Set screw lug terminals sized for #14-#4 AWG wires, terminal assignments – one HOT bar and one NEUTRAL bar. Both bars have four lugs.
